The people behind great podcasts

Welcome to third edition of our Creator Spotlight series, where we highlight the people behind the podcasts and the thoughtful work they’re bringing into the world!

Scott DeLuzio didn’t start Drive On Podcast because he wanted to. He started it because he had to.

Scott is a United States Army veteran who served in the Connecticut Army National Guard as an Infantryman. His 2010 deployment to Afghanistan left him facing the same invisible battles that veterans across the country know too well: reconnecting with loved ones, finding purpose outside the uniform, and confronting mental health challenges the military doesn’t prepare you for.

Instead of struggling in silence, Scott started talking. And then he started recording. “If we’re going to get better, we have to start talking about it,” Scott says on his podcast’s website.

The show brings together service members, veterans, mental health experts, and nonprofit leaders to share personal triumphs, life experiences, and emotional hardships. It’s not about glossing over the difficult stuff. It’s about giving veterans the hope and practical tools they need to keep moving forward. With 550 episodes since June 2019 and counting, Drive On has become a trusted resource for the military community—a place where veterans hear from people who actually understand what they’re going through.

Host Name:Scott DeLuzio

Recording/editing tip:Always listen back on headphones first to catch small audio issues

What makes Drive On special is Scott’s breadth. While focused on veterans back home, he explores many avenues that might help someone find their footing. That includes unconventional paths. In “Plant Medicine And Veteran Healing“, he discusses iboga-assissted therapy for veterans with PTSD. “Nature Therapy For Combat Veterans” features Warriors and Quiet Waters, a nine-month program that combines Montana backcountry immersion with fly fishing and photography for post-9/11 veterans.

After 550 episodes without missing a single scheduled release, Scott knows that longevity matters as much as content. So he’s built a few automated workflows that handle some of the repetitive work. Zapier creates SquadCast recording rooms automatically when guests book through Calendly, reminder emails go out without him lifting a finger, and his scheduling system syncs with everything from his kids’ sports schedules to holidays. When you’re running a podcast, you can’t afford to let the logistics grind you down. Scott’s documented all of this here.

He’s also brought something practical to his podcast’s website: a chatbot that helps veterans find relevant episodes based on what they’re going through. Someone struggling with reintegration can quickly surface the conversations most likely to help them. With so many episodes in the archive, that kind of navigation matters.

You can visit the podcast’s website here and subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts. Thanks Scott for trusting Castos with your podcast!
